Why would Allah (swt) make our children (some of them) and our wealth a trial for us who believes in Him?

The Holy Qur’an states:

Your riches and your children may be but a trial: but in the Presence of Allah, is the highest, Reward. 64:15.

So fear Allah as much as ye can; listen and obey and spend in charity for the benefit of your own soul and those saved from the covetousness of their own souls,- they are the ones that achieve prosperity.64:16.

If ye loan to Allah, a beautiful loan, He will double it to your (credit), and He will grant you Forgiveness: for Allah is most Ready to appreciate (service), Most Forbearing. 64:17

Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, “We believe”, and that they will not be tested? 29:02

Mere lip profession of faith is not enough; it must be tried and tested in the real turmoil of life’s conduct. The test and trial would be applied in all kind of circumstances, in individual life, and in relation to the environment around us. To see whether we can strive constantly in timing to Allah (swt), (instead of turning to evil) and put Allah (swt) above self. Some of these test would cause us much pain, grief and sorrows, in some cases self sacrifices may be necessary. These tests is to purify us, just as fire applied to a goldsmith’s crucible to burn out the iron, so the test is to burn out the dross within ourselves.

Our children and our wealth are very precious to us and test given by us through them would help us with firmness and constancy in our belief for Allah (swt), and in our prayers and our remembrance of Him. And this would make our quest only to God Almighty.

By turning sincerely only to Allah (swt) would give us the true understanding of the past, about the souls that struggles through heavy odds against them, and which upholds God’s truth against the environment of evil, and the task of resisting evil. These souls were the Prophets and their true followers.

About our children: Our children good actions and their bad actions can help us in every sense in several ways. 1. From their good actions we can see how to be grateful to our Creator Allah (swt) Gratefulness, Love, Happiness, and Proudness. 2.In their bad actions we can learn several useful things such as: Patience, mercy, Self sacrifices, Justice, Great forbearance, Firmness, Constancy (of seeking help from Allah (swt), Achievement to salvation: which is the closet, one can get to his Lord (Allah swt).

The same goes for our wealth, we can learn several useful things as well:

  1. Their joyful feelings of helping the poor;
  2. Self-restraint from greediness;
  3. Gratefulness (to Allah (swt) for His favors);
  4. To help our loved ones in their distress;
  5. To build a Mosque etc. As mentioned in the Holy Qur’an:

If ye loan to Allah, a beautiful loan, He will double it to your (credit), and He will grant you Forgiveness: for Allah is most Ready to appreciate (service), Most Forbearing. 64:17

Please take a note of this:Allah (swt) knows that Shaitan would use children against their (believing) parents and as such He would use the Shaitan infliction from the children (who are possessed with the Shaitan influences) as a testing time for His true servants. These suffering are of great oppressions, insults, persecution and ridicules. After such oppression it will force one to choose between Allah (swt) and man. The hurtful feelings of seeing one’s child in such a terrible state of real pain, hurt and anger, lashing out at everyone he or she loves and cannot control himself or herself, drown himself in all kinds of evil addictions, if one (the parents or siblings) do not have strong faith in Allah (swt), they would give up and turn to their child, by supporting him or her in their evil pleasures of drinking, smoking, dancing etc. because trust me they would stop at nothing but to see you indulge in their conduct and that is the time when they would lash out the most at you, like a heavy storm catches you or fire open upon you or the earth burst and cover you up which suffocated you. These are what a faithful believer has to suffer through the evil infliction from his or her children. As much as the pain is overbearing from the infliction of the evil; the pain from seeing the child in his or her anguish and how his or her life is disrupted, one cannot begin to imagine the pain, until they are in it themselves (which I will not wish on my worst enemy). At no time we must give up and turn to our children’s ways (just to make them happy). Trust me! If we do such a thing, then we allow the Shaitan to get the better of us. And what we would achieve, surely it’s the hell fire; we would become a loser in this world and in the hereafter. Allah (swt) can turn our weakness into strength, if we seek His aid through prayers or even through remembering Him. At no time we must allow the love which we have for our children turn our strength into weakness.

We achieve real prosperity in justice and truth, when we stand up against evil, our real test is our love for Allah (swt) and our appreciation, our great forbearance with our children, His reward for us is only His kingdom. His mercies and kindness will reach us so far beyond our merits.
