The biggest misers are the spendthrifts, one who spend their wealth wasteful; as mention in the Holy Qur’an:
Verily spendthrifts are brothers of the Evil Ones; and the Evil One is to his Lord (himself) ungrateful.17:27.
There are several ways one can become a miser in the sight of Allah (swt), without even realizing it, such as wasteful spending:
(1) One who hears the name of Allah (swt) and do not say ‘Glory to Him’ (Subhan Allah)
(2) One who hears the Name of the Prophets and do not say ‘Peace be upon them’.
(3) Who hears the name of the Angel Gabriel and do not say ‘Allah’s blessings on him.
(4) Those that is greedy to spend their wealth in charity.
(5) Those that is greedy to feed their family when Allah (swt) has blessed them with wealth.
(6) Those who are greedy to give their children love, by holding them, hugging them, kissing them, making them feel love and secure, by holding back from giving them something which they ask for that will make them feel happy (when you can afford it).
(7) One who is too greedy to share their knowledge in helping one out, who are in need for some friendly advice (and they know exactly what advice they need).
(8) To hold back a secret that can help one to come out from some serious problems.
(9) To only pray for the upliftment of one’s child or children, and forget about the rest of children within the family or relative.
(10)To see a child do something good (or someone else) and greedy to ask Allah’s (swt) blessings on that child (or someone else).
(11) To stand up for justice (seeing injustice done to one and they ignore it).
True charity consist in finding out those in real need whether if they ask or not, and try to help them out. Who in need of money and one can afford it, give freely. Who cannot help in money because they are struggling them self for money, at least help by giving some attention to those who are in need by offering some friendly advice or some kind words or joke to make them happy, even by cheering them up by making jokes or anything that can put a smile on their sad faces. Allah (swt) dislikes covetousness, selfishness and hard heartiness. Those who are blessed with wealth or talent or opportunity has the further responsibility of searching out those in need of his assistance in order to show (Allah) that he hold all gifts (that he is bless with) in trust for the service of his fellow creatures. Man was given a free will to a limited extent; the wrong use of his free will makes his nature weak, and hasty and impatient as mention in the Holy Qur’an:
Truly man was created very impatient 70:19.
Fretful when evil touches him. 70:20.
And niggardly when good reaches him. 70:21.
Let’s change our wrong conduct into good so that we can achieve Allah’s (swt) pleasure and not His displeasures. A true Muslim is not one of the above categories.
