What is the meaning of a marriage?

The meanings of a marriage are very important it’s based on several things: such as purity in sexual relationship, self respect, self restraint, firmness, and the most important one is loyalty. This means faithfulness, honesty, sincerity, stability, dutiful and truthfulness. So a marriage is not something to take lightly. The relationships of the sexes are an important factor in the sight of Allah (swt), and in the social life of a community. Of all things permitted by law said the Holy Prophet (owbp), divorce ismost hateful in the sight of Allah (swt) and this Sura Talaq deal with certain aspects of it (divorce) and the necessity of precautions to guard against its abuse. Guard well your truth and pure integrity in sex relationship, and keep the tie of marriage sacred. A marriage under God Almighty trust are supposed to keep a man and his wife safe from sin where adultery and fornication are concerned, but disloyalty in a marriage brings on great sin and cause terrible corruptions and feud within families, relatives and friends. It is sad and very devastating for a marriage that falls into this tragedy.

The Holy Qur’an states:

Among His Signs is this, that He created you from dust; and then,- behold, ye are men scattered (far and wide)! 30:20

And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect. 30:21

And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the variations in your languages and your colours: verily in that are Signs for those who know. 30:22

It is He Who has created man from water: then has He established relationships of lineage (descent or ancestry, direct line) and marriage: for thy Lord has power (over all things). 25:54

Allah (swt) created everything in pairs, and water is a fluid, unstable thing, yet from it arise the highest form of life known to us in this world: ‘Man’. And Man has not only the functions and characteristics of the noblest animals, but his abstract relationship is also typical of his highest nature; He can trace lineage and pedigree and a long line of ancestors. Allah (swt) purifies the whole world with His rain water, and rain water is not only pure water distilled in air and sky, but it is the best purifying and sanitizing agent on the larger scale known to us (mankind).

A parched desert quickly comes to life under the action of water, water is life and is made available to maintain life all over the world, and this is a physical fact which we all can see, water is also the symbol of spiritual life.

Answer to question:

The meaning of marriages is purity (like the rain purifying water). Allah (swt) loves purity and purity leads to piety and piety in two people lives leads to trust, honor and respect. Allah (swt) put two people also in marriage who are from different background, sometimes languages and different shades of complexions. The basic unity in this is; we are all equally under Allah (swt) loving care and His Mercy, it is not for us to hate or to rebuke each other or to feel superior. If this kind of action is taking place in a marriage, where there are two different kinds of people, then both parties need to stop and think as to why Allah (swt) put them together. It would help to awakening the souls and lead them to true reality. (1) Our subjective starting point is our origin and destiny. (2) The first beginning of our social life arises through sex and love, to understand this in all its bearings, we must reflect. If we ponder hard upon the following verse from the Holy Qur’an:

And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect. 30:21

Dwell in tranquility means calm, peaceful tranquil; it will help us to live with patience and great forbearance, that is only if we respect Allah (swt) commandment. Allah (swt) also said in the above verse

30:21: That He has put love and mercy between your hearts (for each other).

This is how caring Allah (swt) is over His servants, He did not put two people in marriage to live like beast; who are brute creature (brutal and cruel like animals), He put love and mercy in our hearts for each other, and if there are cruelty then the marriage for sure will not last too long, because Allah (swt) is only merciful to the people who show mercy.

If two people from different tribes, language or color become man and wife, it is for a reason, and only Allah (swt) knows that reason Allah (swt) loves peace and unity, and putting two people from a different background, it could be for them to be an example of how human beings should live with each other (in love, peace and unity), and if they fail to live in tranquility (as Allah swt) order us to live with each other, then they fail to obey Allah (swt).

To obey Allah (swt) laws which are to live in peace and unity, is to study and understand our diversities in speech, color, tribes and nations. To help us to understand Allah (swt) unity, we must look around and reflect on His diversities that arising from differences of climate and external conditions: yet there is unity beneath that diversity.

Allah (swt) has given mankind wisdom to live with unity in every city and countries, to appoint authority among themselves, which would help society to live with self restraint from all wrong doings, a form of security. And at the same time, if a man takes this into serious consideration, how they can stand up firmly to mankind laws, by keeping away from shame and punishment by mankind laws, it would surely help them to stand up firmly to Allah (swt) laws as well, which is to live with peace, love and unity among each other. The more we stop fearing mankind laws and we started to keep our minds on Allah (swt) and what He wants from us, and how we can help ourselves to become obedient to Him. The more He would guide us to achieve a peaceful life on this earth.

Allah (swt) is the Sovereign authority in an infinity higher sense, He is in no sense dependant on us, but we must honor and repect Him and fear to disobey His will or His laws. The strong fear to disobey Allah’s (swt) will is the beginning of wisdom.
