Is Zikr more than the remembrance of Allah?

The Holy Qur’an states:

Has not the Time arrived for the Believers that their hearts in all humility should engage in the remembrance of Allah.57:16.

To remember Allah (swt) all times is a wonderful thing, but to engage in the remembrance of Allah (swt), is even better as the above verse mentioned, to engage in the Zikr of Allah (swt) is to make preparation in one’s life to receive the Blessed light of faith, which helps with the highest achievement, the highest felicity to attain salvation and fulfillment of all desires. Allah (swt) should be remembered at all times, but humility and the remembrance of Allah’s (swt)message are never more necessary than in the hour of victory and prosperity. To just remember Allah (swt), it is not good enough to help achieve spiritual wisdom and understanding, there is more that Allah (swt) requires from us.

Examples of how it is to just remember Allah (swt).

  1. It is like planting a garden and leave it without watering it, just imagine what can you reap from a garden that is dried up and crumbled to pieces?
  2. To just think about a loved one (your spouse, parents, children etc.) Would it help you to understand them? Their thoughts, their feelings and their needs. Just think about it, if you take some time to sit (engage) with them and discuss with them, for sure you would become a more better person, and your love ones will be well pleased with you.
  3. Can you benefit from their job by just remembering that they have a job? Surely NO!
  4. From the different men listed below, who are the most fortunate ones?
    1. One who takes their harvest and their grains and store it up without using it up, or even not sharing it with others. What can he gain by such an act?
    2. One who are in love without looking at the green grass and the green trees, and just keep remembering it. What benefit would it do to him?
    3. One who face up the rough and tough sea to catch fish so he can feed his family and share with his neighbors and friends. Imagine how much glory, thanks and gratitude this man would receive from his love ones, neighbors and friends, which shows that he is the best one, while the other two are the losers, because the first one is a miser, the second one is working in vain, he make’s power and wealth influence him away from the remembrance of Allah (swt).

The Holy Qur’an states:

O ye who believe!

When the call is proclaimed to prayer on Friday (the Day of Assembly), hasten earnestly to the Remembrance of Allah, and leave off business (and traffic): That is best for you if ye but knew! 62:9.

If anyone withdraws himself from remembrance of ((Allah)) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him. 43:36.

The remembrance of Allah (swt) includes every good actions, service to the poor and needy and all of Allah’s (swt) creations on this earth. To remember our parents is good but to help them out in their needs is even better. Not to say that Allah (swt) needs us, He doesn’t need anything from us, our service to Him is our salvation.
